So, your’e ready to get your very own blog, right? Something that you own? And has your own wwww.yourwebsite.com domain name? (Not like those lame yourname.blogspot.com or yourname.wordpress.com website names)
And you don’t want to do it yourself, but you want it done fast, right?
Yeah, you look like someone who’s ready to have a real blog. I can tell these things.
First of all, lets get the fine print stuff out of the way. Ok, its not really fine print, but its stuff that you really need dto be aware of. The given price only applies if you don’t yet have web hosting. Why? Because the way I keep things affordable for you is by getting an affiliate commission when you buy your hosting. If you don’t buy your hosting through me, then I end up having to work for way too cheap. And that just sucks.
So, if you don’t got your hosting yet, that’s awesome. Hold off on getting it and I’ll set you up with the right way to do it that gets you affordable hosting that includes a domain name once we start working together.
Got hosting already? Hey. That’s fine too, that wont hurt my feelings much. But, you really should read this stuff.
And if you’re going “What the heck is hosting?” That’s no problem, too. Just keep reading.
Give me the low down!
Heres what I’ll do:
- Install and configure WordPress
- Upload a theme of your choice
- Install plugins
- Tell how to get to admin area (This is where you can write posts, add pages, etc.)
What’s not included in the base price:
- Moving content from another blog to this blog
The basic version is basically a brand new, squeaky clean, fresh start. It will give you a blank blog (besides the sample stuff thats already in there), ready for you to fill with your very own awesome content. If you already have an existing blog, and you want those pages, posts, comments, whatever your old stuff was moved over to your brand new snazzy home, then what you want is a blog migration — I can do that, and theres more info on the right hand side about that. - Personal blog tutoring
Hold on. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t say I couldn’t sit down with you and show you exactly what to do. I just mean it wasn’t included in the base price.
If you’d like some how-to help, contact me about scheduling some technology coaching after your blog is finished. If your questions are more strategic, (such as “How should I____ my blog”) I also offer small-business consulting. - Support
Lets be clear. If you have a question here or there, I’m usually pretty happy to answer it. But you really shouldn’t think of this as “support,” as in “Oh my god, its not working. Let’s call tech support.” If your site breaks, you can and really should call the hosting company. That being said, if you’re interested in learning how to put widgets in the sidebars or figure out how to make some snazzy new plug-in work, I’m going to refer you to that technology coaching thing I mentioned earlier. This lets me give you quality time to focus on your issue.
So how does this stuff work?
First:
Start with signing up for your basic site. From there, I’ll give you a special link on how to get hosting. This is important, because this is what makes your website super affordable. Besides, you need hosting anyways, right? Once you buy your hosting, you’ll get a confirmation email from the company. Just send that to me and I can get started. Don’t worry, there’s no way I can get your credit card number or payment information from your hosting account. Feel free to log in and dig around your account.
Whats next?
Now comes the fun part. You pick your theme. This is what your website is going to look like. From there you send me the information on it, and I set it up for you.
Then what?
After its all set up, you’ll receive an email with information on how to log in, make posts, add new pages and change your password. You do want to change your password! Its not that I’ll get in there after I’m done, but its always good practice to change this stuff.
Thats totally awesome! How long does this take?
Once you provide me all the stuff I need, usually about 2 weeks.
So, are you ready to go?
Heck yeah! Lets go!
Frequently-Asked Questions:
(AKA the Q & A section)
Q: So what’s this hosting thing? What do I get, and how much does it cost?
A: If you don’t have hosting, just hold your horses.
After you buy the blog setup, I’ll direct you to a hosting plan that will allow you to have as many websites on it as you’d like. This plan costs $83.40 for a full year and includes your own domain name, paid in advance; using a link I’ll give you.
Now some people offer a monthly option. I don’t. And here’s why: It’s freakin expensive in the long run! A lot of these places will charge you around $10 a month. That’s $120 a year! And, as you know, that’s over $36 a year more than if you just bought the yearly plan. To me, that’s not saving you money, that’s just making you pay more. And I can’t do that to you and be able to sleep at night.
Q: Can you still set up my blog if I already have hosting?
A: Yes, but because I won’t get the hosting affiliate commission that subsidizes the base price, it’ll cost you an extra charge.
Q: Just how much extra is that “extra charge”?
A: If your hosting is on BlueHost or any hosting running cPanel (such as HostGator, DreamHost, or GoDaddy), then it’s just $50. If it’s another hosting solution, the charge is $75.
Q: Will you install one of those cool premium theme frameworks like Thesis, Headway, or one of the awesome premium themes from WooThemes, or Studiopress?
A: Totally! Check out the info on the right hand side here.
Q: What plug-ins do you install?
A: These: are the ones I’ll install for you (and yes, I use these too):
- wp-spamfree: This will help fight blog comment spam (I hate spam!)
- HeadSpace SEO: This will help get you into the search engines, like Google and Bing.
- Google XML Sitemap Generator :This will help search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com to better find the pages of your blog. It makes it much easier for the engines to all the pages of your site and to put them into their records easier. And I love making easier!
- Subscribe to comments: This lets people who comment on your blog to sign up for e-mail notification if anyone replies to their comments. And this is great because it helps to keep conversations going. I know everyone’s busy person. You don’t always have time to keep refreshing a page to see if someone replied so something you said on a website.
- WP-Supercache : This helps your site appear on people’s web browsers faster, without your website having to recreate the website over and over.
Q: How are you able to be so freakin awesome?
A: I just am. Thanks for noticing.
